As a gift to God

The Universe is Big

August 13th, 2009

I was watching Perseids last night (the big meteor shower of the year) and saw a lot of neat spectacles, including airplanes, orbiting satellites, meteors, planets, stars, geosynchronous satellites, the edge of the galaxy, and the moon. Gosh it’s a big place up there; you look at the dimly-lit horizon and see all the stars and think that you’re just on a rotating piece of dirt. A very, very special rotating piece of dirt. So I was thinking, the universe is really big.

And it was organized under the direction of an intelligent beings — a god, no less.

When’s my turn? :)

How Great Thou Art

July 23rd, 2009

This really is a gorgeous hymn. I love to ponder the meaning when I’m outdoors.

Words by Carl Boberg.

“O Lord my God, When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made;
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power throughout the universe displayed.

When through the woods, and forest glades I wander,
And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.
When I look down, from lofty mountain grandeur
And see the brook, and feel the gentle breeze.

And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing;
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart.
Then I shall bow, in humble adoration,
And then proclaim: ‘My God, how great Thou art!’

Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art.
Then sings my soul, My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, How great Thou art!”
